July, 2004 – Interesting Javalina’s Experience Contest Winning Entry
Interesting Javalina’s Experience Contest, July 2004
Winning Entry Submitted by Bill Evans of Sierra Vista
An interesting experience at
Javalina's, you ask? Most definitely, it was a beautiful Sunday morning, the 18th
of July, as I recall. I happened to be in the Rita Ranch
area, on Tucson's East side, and noticed a unique, newly-opened
coffee shop, and was immediately drawn to the place.
Entering, my first impression was one of warmth and
friendliness. The decor was exquisite, being a perfect blend
of Southwestern color, and style. And though a business atmosphere
was evident, still, the skillful choice of furniture and the impeccable
arrangement of those pieces helped to recreate the captivating allure of one's
own living room. Upon the air drifted the luxuriant aromas of multiple coffee
flavors, intertwined with those of chocolate, and whipped cream...I approached
the counter and made a selection from a host of delicious-sounding
titles. Then, while awaiting my order, I leaned on the counter, and
slowly scanned around the shop.
Nearby, in one deeply-cushioned chair, a woman sat curled up as if at
home, reading her favorite novel. In the center, at one of the cozy
tables, two friends were deeply engaged in conversation, their words drifted
to my ears as they talked openly of personal events in their lives, like
friends alone over a morning cup of coffee in their kitchen. For much of
the morning I lingered, enjoying conversations with a variety of contented patrons, while
marveling the aura surrounding Javalina's, and how it beckoned to the outside
world. Customers, one by one, dropped in and chatted comfortably with the
employees, all of whom exuded an intimate pleasantness and sincerity, qualities
which radiated from every corner of this extraordinary shop. As if
by means of escaping the world's frets and worries, a few who entered did so
with the look of those who faced the daily grind, but within moments of their
arrival their spirits were clearly uplifted. But regardless of the reasons for
their visit, all who entered had come to know the real truth about this
superlative hideaway...
The owner, in explaining her desire to create a quiet spot where her smile
would be an asset, has most definitely succeeded, for Javalina's is nothing
short of being the Miracle Cure. Over the counter, there is a scrumptious
array of tasty treats for the palate. And intricately woven throughout the
fabric of Javalina's ambiance is a veritable plethora of wonderful treats for
the soul.
